Founded in the French city of Brest in 1966, SDMO joined the international Kohler group in 2005, with its Power Systems activity making the group the world's third-largest generator manufacturer. In 2016, the SDMO brand became KOHLER-SDMO to reflect the fact that it was part of the Kohler group, and to create a direct link with the launch of its new KD SERIES product range which integrated 800 to 4500 kVA motors from the KOHLER brand.
The switch to the KOHLER brand in 2021 completed this transition.
